FIRST BAPTIST
Our History
History of Hartwell First Baptist Church at the top of the hill on Richardson St.
Founded and established in 1862.
Around 1895, the second physical structure was erected on less than one half of an acre.
In July 1981, a telephone was installed and was listed in the phone book as Hartwell First Baptist Church.
The motto of the church remains, “Where Jesus is preached and souls are reached.”
Outreach ministries have been organized to address the needs of our community as God has commanded us to do...
“to show ourselves approved.”
Ministries:
* Quarterly Clothes Give-Away,
* Jail Ministry,
* Food Distribution,
* Monthly Ladies Refresh & Renew Group, First and Third Sunday Morning Prayer,
* Shoebox Ministry and commitments to individually increase our out-reach efforts to those in our families and in our community.
For various reasons, some of these ministries have been discontinued, but our commitment to reach God’s people wherever they are should push us to continue to grow and find ways to share the good News. We are God’s people, and he has given us all unique gifts, so all are asked to consider becoming a part of an outreach ministry as God directs you.
Our mission is to continue to grow stronger in faith, be saints for God, stay strong and leave a legacy for future generations.
Our prayer, with God’s help, is to still be a light, even a brighter light “at the top of the hill” for many generations to come. Through God’s grace and mercy, 2024 marks our 162nd year, generations have come and gone BUT God has sustained us and we are holding on to his unchanging hand!!
